Kraai

Located in Albuquerque’s historic downtown district, the Kraai Residence was carefully designed to expand an existing home while respecting the neighborhood’s preservation guidelines and the Landmarks Commission’s standards. To maintain the historic character, the majority of the addition was placed at the rear of the property, leaving the street-facing façade largely unchanged. Every detail of the new construction was thoughtfully considered to blend seamlessly with the home’s original architecture.

The expansion introduced a new primary suite, a children’s bedroom wing, and an open-plan layout for the kitchen, dining, and living areas. This strengthened the home’s connection to the backyard and enhanced opportunities for outdoor living. A centrally located staircase leads to a loft office and the new primary suite, with views over both the backyard and the vaulted dining space below. Modern yet warm finishes, paired with a custom steel shade structure and railings, bring a refined contemporary touch to this historic home, creating a cohesive and inviting living environment.
